The rules for accessing super as an eligible temporary resident recently changed.

Now, if you are an eligible temporary resident and you want to access your super after you permanently leave Australia - and you satisfy certain criteria (refer to Media Super's Benefit Payment form) - you can apply to Media Super for a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP) within six months of leaving Australia. If you do not apply to Media Super for this payment within this time, the Fund must pay your benefit to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) as unclaimed super.

Eligible temporary residents whose benefit is transferred to the ATO as unclaimed super will not receive an exit statement from Media Super.

If you are an Eligible temporary resident and you do not apply for a DASP within six months of leaving Australia, your super will be transferred to the ATO as unclaimed super. If you do apply for a DASP, you will receive an exit statement. For more information about eligible temporary residents and Media Super, visit www.mediasuper.com.au/etr.
