The information we collect

MEDIA SUPER only collects information that is necessary to administer your fund membership and to provide you with information in relation to your investment. Your personal information will not be used or disclosed for any other purpose without your consent, except where required by law.

The personal information collected by MEDIA SUPER from you, or through your employer, includes your contact details, date of birth and tax file number (if you have chosen to quote it). Over time, this will be supplemented with financial and other information necessary to administer your fund membership.

Additional information may be collected from medical practitioners or from your employer for the purpose of assessing your eligibility for insurance cover or for the assessment of a claim. We will only seek to collect such information with your consent.

If you choose not to provide your personal information, we many not be able to process your membership application or administer and manage your account.

To assist us to provide a complete service we may have to pass on your personal details to other related organisations, such as:

  • Third party service providers - organisations engaged by MEDIA SUPER to provide administration, technology, auditing, investigative, mailing, archiving or printing services;
  • Auditors and Regulators – organisations that ensure MEDIA SUPER is complying with legislative and contractual obligations;
  • Insurance companies and re-insurers – organisations that provide insurance cover for MEDIA SUPER members;
  • Professional advisers - organisations such as legal and accounting firms, actuaries, auditors, consultants and other advisers;
  • Superannuation funds or arrangements - organisations to which your MEDIA SUPER benefit is to be transferred or rolled over (including the administrator of that fund or arrangement);
  • Your spouse or former spouse when required by law;
  • In the event of your death, your personal representative, any person who may be entitled to receive the death benefit, any person whom MEDIA SUPER wishes to contact in relation to the processing of the death benefit, and their advisers; and
  • Medical practitioners, rehabilitation advisers, vocational assessors and other professionals if you apply for a disablement benefit

Information we collect from this website

The information that we collect about you will depend on how you use the website. When you visit an unsecured area of the website (i.e. an area where you are not required to log on), our internet service provider will make a record of your visit and log the following information for statistical purposes only:

  • Your server address
  • Your top level domain name (for example .com .au etc)
  • The date and time of your visit to the site
  • The pages you have accessed and documents downloaded
  • The type of browser you are using.

The Trustee of Media Super will not make any attempt to personally identify users or their browsing activities.

The Media Super website also contains links to the websites of third party providers of goods and services. If you have accessed third party websites through the Media Super website and if those third parties collect information about you, Media Super may also collect or have access to that information as part of our arrangements with those third parties. Third party websites should contain their own privacy statements and those third parties are responsible for their own privacy practices.

Your rights as a member

As a member of Media Super, you may ask to see the information we hold about you and to have it corrected if required. From time to time, Media Super may send members information about events, promotions or services.  If you do not wish to receive information of this kind, please contact us.

Cookies

A cookie is a small text file which allows information to be retrieved from your computer by the web server. These cookies may be stored on your computer on a permanent or temporary basis. The Media Super website provides secure services for member and employer online accounts and only uses temporary session cookies. Website statistics are generated from the web logs as outlined above. Upon closing your browser, the session cookie set by this website is destroyed and no personal information is maintained which may identify you should you visit the website at a later date. If your browser is configured to reject all cookies, you will be unable to use your online account.

How we handle email

We will preserve the content of the email only where there is a legal requirement to do so. Your email address will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it. If you provide Media Super with your email address we may use it to send you our regular communications such as updates on new and existing products and services. Contact us if you do not wish to receive this additional material.

Online security

Media Super will take all reasonable steps to preserve the security of your personal information on this website. All member information is protected from unauthorised access through the use of secure passwords, user log-ons or other security procedures. Developments in security and encryption technology will be reviewed regularly. Our staff are trained to treat your personal information with the utmost confidentiality.
