Media Super’s Balanced investment options – both MySuper and pension – are invested across equities (Australian and overseas), property and infrastructure, and fixed interest investments – and we’re confident we’ve got the right strategy to maximise your returns over the long term.

In the first quarter of 2016-17 the Balanced (MySuper) investment option, in which most members are invested, returned 3.41%.^ This is a sound performance in what is a challenging investment environment.

This start to the financial year places your returns in the top half of Australian super funds, ahead of the average return of 2.90%*.

For pension members, the Balanced investment option has returned a very strong financial year to date (FYTD) performance of 3.74%, above the average of 3.50%* for super funds in Australia.

This places our pension members in the top 20 super funds (as surveyed by SuperRatings*) for the FYTD.

The year ahead

In an environment of subdued global economic growth, with low inflation and extremely low interest rates, we expect investment returns for the year to remain relatively low (compared to the past few years).

Media Super continues to implement a ‘portfolio insurance’ strategy to dampen the impact of market falls – still one of the few funds with this type of strategy in place – and we remain confident that our Balanced (MySuper) investment options is well positioned to meet your long-term investment objectives.
