Skills and experience: Mr Hicks has worked for the Electrical Trades Union for twenty-five years. He currently holds the role of Branch Secretary of the Electrical Trades Union NSW/ACT Branch and NSW/ACT Branch Secretary for the Electrical Division CEPU. He served as National Secretary of the ETU for a decade from 2013 to 2023.
He has extensive knowledge about Cbus members and their needs, and brings experience in industrial relations and policy, strategic leadership, skills development, industry training, worker safety and stakeholder management – representing workers in the energy and electrical industries across NSW and the ACT.
Allen started his career as an electrical apprentice in the coal mining industry and worked as a licensed electrician in industrial, commercial, domestic and metalliferous mining industries.
Allen is Co-Chair of the New South Wales Renewable Energy Sector Board (RESB), Director of the ElectroComms and Energy Utilities Industry Skills Council, Director of National Electrical Electronic Industry Training Committee Ltd, and serves as a member of the Steering Committee of Global Power Trade Unions.
He has previously served as an alternate director for Cbus from 2015 to 2019.
