Some awards and workplace agreements may include a specific superannuation arrangement but most employees can choose which fund their employer pays their contributions into.
Whether your employees are eligible to choose their own fund will depend on the type of award or industrial agreement that you employ them under.
If you are not sure what award or industrial agreement, if any, an employee is covered by:
- you can search for awards at Fair Work Australia or
- phone the workplace relations department in your state or territory.
If any of your employees are eligible for choice, you are required to select a default fund for those employees who do not choose their own fund. From 1 January 2014, your default fund must be MySuper authorised.
